What is bullying?
The word "bullying" comes from the Dutch language and means "harassment." Dan Olweus in the early 70's was the first to use the term "bullying" to situations of bullying, which led to the schools of Norway established programs "antacid".
Our country is a new concept, but goes on increasing, more and more children experience it, even have been high-profile cases with serious consequences. It has also been found that this phenomenon is present in all sectors of the population, is not exclusive to any socioeconomic or gender, although it tends to be more common in males.
When talking about bullying, it refers to an isolated situation of rivalry, fights common among children or relationships in which a child gets along better with one another. Nor does it refer to the existence of shy children, quiet and isolated. Bullying is not a reactive behavior of children who experience situations such as a parental divorce, death of a relative, etc., as these behavioral reactions are transient and reactive to a situation that could merit and are taken as occasional and short duration.
In the case of bullying are talking about situations of aggression, both verbal and physical and emotional, that will not stop, that are intolerable and that occur in a prolonged and sustained psychological harm generating both the victim and the aggressor.
How can we define what we are really in a situation of bullying? .¿Qué es el Bullying?
La palabra "bullying" proviene del idioma holandés y significa “acoso”. Dan Olweus en la década de los 70 fue el primero en utilizar el termino de "bullying" para situaciones de acoso escolar; lo que derivó en que las escuelas de Noruega establecieran programas de "antiacoso".
En nuestro país se trata de un concepto nuevo, pero que va en incremento; cada vez más niños lo experimentan, inclusive se han dado casos muy sonados con consecuencias graves. Asimismo, se ha detectado que este fenómeno está presente en todos los sectores de la población, no es exclusivo de algún nivel socioeconómico o género, aunque tiende a ser más común en varones.
Cuando se habla del bullying, no se hace referencia a una situación aislada de rivalidad, de riñas comunes entre niños o de relaciones en las que un niño se lleva mejor con uno que con otro. Tampoco se refiere a la existencia de niños tímidos, tranquilos o aislados. El bullying no es una conducta reactiva de niños que experimentan situaciones como un divorcio de sus padres, la muerte de un familiar, etcétera, pues estas reacciones conductuales son pasajeras y reactivas a una situación que las podría ameritar y son tomadas como ocasionales y de corta duración.
En el caso del bullying estamos hablando de situaciones de agresión, tanto física como verbal y emocional, que no se detienen, que son intolerables y que se dan de manera prolongada y sostenida, generando daño psicológico tanto en la víctima como en el agresor.
¿Cómo podemos definir que estamos realmente ante una situación de bullying? En el caso del agresor, éste puede funcionar de manera individual contra uno o varios niños; también sucede que el bully influencia e impulsa a otros a que participen en las agresiones, estos niños “seguidores” del bully, logran darle poder y refuerzan su comportamiento. De tal manera que lo que define una situación de bullying es el patron repetitivo, constante y sistemático de las agresiones,las cuales parecen o aparentan presentarse sin una razon que las justifique.
El contexto de los actos de bullying es generalmente la escuela, academia o centro de recreación infantil, que son lugares fuera del ámbito familiar. No obstante, ya se presentan casos de agresiones vía Internet, esto se denomina "cyber bullying".
